Community Centre

A wide range of Community Groups use the Centre.

St. James’ Community Centre is owned by the parish of Whitehaven and the PCC rent it out, by agreement in the form of a lease, to the Management Committee who run it as a company limited by guarantee and it is also a registered charity.

The Management Committee seek to keep the maintenance and decoration of the building up to a respectable standard and ensure compliance with all legislation relating to public buildings. Any profit from the hire of the premises is used, with the addition of grants that we have been successful in applying for, to achieve this.
All members of the Management Committee are volunteers.

We are on High Street, Whitehaven, Cumbria (opposite St James' Church).

Our Postcode is CA28 7PY.  Our National Grid Reference is NX 97640 18419

We endeavour to provide public space for the benefit of the local residents and community. It is a place that is used by all ages, from babies to the elderly, and has wheelchair access and facilities.

The premises are rented out to several different organisations on a weekly basis.
For details of regular groups follow the link.

Regular social events, including meals, parties and concerts also take place.
It is also the venue for community meetings with local residents, a training venue and a rehearsal venue for local groups. Kitchen facilities to a professional standard are available with all the necessary utensils and equipment and have the capacity to facilitate meals for 50/60 people.
